Needle Felting with Julia Terry of The Felted Sheep

Look who arrived at Cartwheels Craft Centre today!DSCF3817 (Small)

It was Julia Terry of The Felted Sheep with her vast selection of beautifully coloured sheep’s wool in preparation for our needle felting workshop.

What fun we all had with a full house of ladies keen to learn the art of needle felting.  We all started by making a flower which could either be made into a brooch or a stem added to be displayed in a vase.  We then progressed onto a variety of designs including a dragonfly, a ladybird, a robin, a mouse, a teddy bear, a sheep, a rabbit, a chicken and a small picture.  I think it is fair to say that everyone is now hooked.

Basic Drawing Skills

Our ‘Basic Drawing Skills’ workshop with local artist Yvette Wiltshire was a great success.  None of the learners had any previous drawing experience, yet some great results were produced.

The skills taught in this workshop would definitely benefit anyone who attends art classes.

Christmas Craft Fair 14th December 2013

We held a very successful Christmas craft fair here on the 14th December with a lovely display of high quality art and craft products on sale.  Thank you to everyone who donated raffle prizes, we managed to raise £52 for the local Pre-School.

Shaggy Rag Rugs with Sara Rose

11 ladies came to Cartwheels Craft Centre on Saturday to a Shaggy Rag Rug workshop held by Sara Rose.  It was a great day (although my progress was a bit slow), some were more ambitious than me and went straight for a square or heart design, whereas I went for the random design!  A couple of ladies almost finished their designs on the day, well done.

If you feel inspired by these pictures and would like to have a go, we will be holding another workshop in early 2014.

I have now finished my Shaggy Rag cushion that I started during the workshop, I am really quite pleased with it as it was my first attempt!  I hope you like it too!

An Introduction to Willow with Bridget King

We have now held our first ‘Introduction to Willow’ workshop which was very popular, so much so that we have booked another introduction workshop for the 19th October.  The day was great fun with lots of questions asked but we all soon got the hang of it.  We began making a basic fish shape to get used to handling the willow and then we progressed onto flowers.  We experimented with coloured willow and came up with some lovely results.

Some of the learners enjoyed the day so much that they have now signed up for the ‘Christmas Willow’ workshop, fantastic!
