As usual Julia Terry of ‘The Felted Sheep’ came with plenty of ideas of how to create some lovely christmas decorations.

Hooked Rugs / Wall Hangings
Everyone was advised by Sara to start on a simpler shape like a heart, trust me I chose a tractor! I cut up my little boys old tee shirts to make them each a wall hanging for their rooms.
Hannah really got to grips with hers and finished in a couple of days. Lovely to get a picture back from one of my learners to show that they have continued at home with their new found skill.

Patchwork and Quilting Exhibition September 2014
We have recently held our first exhibition of Patchwork and Quilting here at Cartwheels. The ladies from Dragonfly and Cartwheels sewing groups teamed up and provided us with a vast range of beautiful quilts, wall hangings, cushions and bags to create a wonderful exhibition.
Our chosen charity to benefit from the event was CLIC Sargent which tied in nicely with September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. All proceeds from admissions, the raffle, refreshments and 10% from the sales table was donated to CLIC Sargent and we managed to raise a grand total of £805 which was fantastic.
A big thank you to all the ladies that helped over the three days. Also a big thank you to Sue Rowe of Dragonfly Crafts who came up with the idea and collected, labelled and displayed all the exhibits, it looked fantastic!

Liskeard Agricultural Show 2014
We had a great day at the 111th Annual Liskeard Agricultural Show yesterday despite it being a little damp. Cartwheels Craft Centre had a stand in the Shopping and Craft Marquee where I was supported by Yvette Wiltshire who teaches the art workshops and courses here and also Sue Rowe who teaches sewing, patchwork and quilting here.
We had lots of interest in the craft centre stand with several workshops being booked, many leaflets being handed out, lots of names registering for our monthly newsletter and also many purchases made. All in all a successful day.
This was topped off by Cartwheels Craft Centre receiving 3rd place for the presentation of the stand, a lovely end to a great day.
On a personal note, I was also pleased with my entries into the domestic handicraft classes. I received a 3rd place for my ‘Country Chicken’ and a highly commended for my wall hanging. My eldest son who is 4 also received a highly commended for his drawing of his favourite toy, ‘Rosie’ the train. Well done Oliver!

Further Drawing Skills with Yvette Wiltshire
Due to popular demand we recently ran a ‘Further Drawing Skills’ workshop with local artist Yvette Wiltshire. The weather was glorious so we decided to take advantage of our tranquil location and run the workshop outside. The subject for the day was a ‘Cartwheel’ giving the learners the opportunity to practise proportions, perspective and angles.
We are hoping to run another drawing workshop soon.
