Sewing Retreats at Cartwheels

We recently welcomed a group of sewing ladies on their second ‘Sewing Retreat’ at Cartwheels.  They took over Winnow Barn and took advantage of the spacious 42′ long lounge and converted it into a extra large sewing studio.

We added additional tables and chairs to the kitchen so that the work stations in the lounge didn’t need to be interrupted at meal times.

If they ran out of supplies while they were here, of course they could simply pop across the lawn to Cartwheels Patchwork & Quilting Shop to find a wide selection of fabrics, thread, wadding, notions and much more.

During their stay, the ladies were welcome to join in with any of the activities that were going on in the Craft Centre such as sewing groups or workshops.

So if you belong to a sewing group, or if you have a group of friends with a shared interest of sewing, and would like to spend some quality time enjoying your hobby away from the phone, the washing, the ironing or even the husband then contact Julia via the contact form or on 01579 343675 / 340026 to check prices and availability.

Thimbletrix Sewing Sessions at Cartwheels Craft Centre

I would like to introduce a new class that will be starting at Cartwheels on 11th May. Thimbletrix Sewing Sessions will be run by Sally McDermott who will help you to make and fit bespoke clothing in a friendly no pressure environment.

The sewing sessions are not workshops. Whether you are a complete beginner, or you just want to improve your sewing skills and learn the tricks of the trade, you choose what you want to make within your skill base and Sally will be there to help and support you. This freedom to choose your project will help you develop your confidence and creativity. You can bring your own pattern or Sally has got a library of patterns that you can use. Alternatively you may wish to re-fashion your out of date wardrobe.

Thimbletrix is all about creating a sociable workroom where people can learn by doing, under expert supervision and guidance at affordable costs.

  • The sessions are weekly on Wednesdays, 1pm – 4pm, £9 per session which are to be booked and paid for in advance in blocks of 4.
  • A taster session is available at £5, to be booked in advance and payable on the day.
  • Tea and coffee included
  • The venue provides ample free off road parking with disabled access and facilities.
  • Spaces are restricted to a maximum of seven per session, booking is essential.

If you would like more detailed information regarding the sessions or if you would like to book a space please contact Julia on 01579 343675 / 340026.

New Art Class with Artist / Tutor Jennie Boniface

A new weekly art class will be starting Friday 22nd April,   10am – 12.30pm, £10 per session, payable as you attend.

This class will be suitable  for both beginners and improvers and will offer the students a great learning experience whilst creating good social interaction in this tranquil rural location.

WP_20150610_003 (Small)The long term aim of the class is to enable the students to become independent painters, to be able to sit in their gardens, on the beach/café/park and sketch/paint in their sketchbook with confidence and to develop their individual style.   Initially some students may need more guidance than others, but each student will receive both group and 1:1 tuition at every session.

For the first 3 weeks of class we will work as a group from WP_20150924_003 (Small)paintings produced by the tutor, in a variety of media – watercolour, ink & charcoal, acrylics. Weeks 4 to 6 will be working as a group, in any medium, from photographs provided by the students. After week 6 each student will use their preferred medium, aiming towards working from their own photograph or photographs provided by the tutor. As the term continues, we will develop painting techniques, colour mixing, drawing and observation skills whilst learning how to be selective with compositions. You will gain the confidence to paint directly from life outdoors (weather dependent) and to work directly from still life inside the craft centre.

The venue offers ample free off road parking with disabled access and facilities.

If you would like more details or to book a place please contact Julia on 01579 343675 / 340026 or via the contact form.
