A lady that recently attended one of the workshops here at Cartwheels suggested that I enter some of my work into the handicraft section at the ‘Liskeard and District Prime Stock Show’. I have never entered any of my work into any competitions before but I decided to have a go.
I entered three classes within the handicraft section, ‘A framed item of cross stitch’, ‘A machine made article’, and ‘Any handicraft other than the other classes’. The items I entered were a framed cross stitch picture of wild flowers, a quilted play mat I made for my little boy and a shaggy rag cushion that I recently made in one of the workshops here at Cartwheels.
To my amazement I won a first for my cushion and a third for my cross stitch. Not only that, but I won ‘The Perpetual Handicraft Cup’ for the exhibitor gaining most points in the handicraft section. What a complete surprise! There is no stopping me now, I am on the lookout for the next competition.
If any one likes the shaggy rag cushion, we will be holding another workshop here at Cartwheels on the 8th March 2014.
In preparation for the festive season, why not come and spend a day in a beautiful setting making Christmas Stockings. Helen Northey will be running this workshop providing the pattern and tuition to create a decorative and functional stocking. A materials list will be provided so that you can come to the workshop fully prepared to ensure you have plenty of time to work on your designs.
Spaces are currently available, we have ample off road parking with disabled access and facilities.
Tea, coffee and cake will be provided but you will be required to bring a packed lunch.
If you would like to book a space then please phone Julia on 01579 343675.
In January 2014 we will be starting ‘Own Project Days’ where you can come and work on an existing project or a new idea that you haven’t yet started. It can be sewing, knitting, rag rugging, drawing, painting, willow or any other kind of art or craft project. There will not be any tutors on site, just like minded people working on their own projects and exchanging ideas. You can stay for half or the whole day but it would be advisable to book in advance as spaces will be limited.
These will be run quarterly on the last Saturday of the month (January, April, July and October)
We have ample off road parking with disabled access and facilities.
Please look at the ‘Workshops’ section for dates and details.
This coming Saturday (19th) is our second ‘Introduction to Willow’ workshop. This is a great way of preparing for the ‘Christmas Willow’ workshop on the 9th November or for the ‘Garden Willow’ workshop next year. There are a couple of spaces left so if you would like to learn the basics of handling willow and join us making fish, flowers and hearts then please call Julia to book a place on 01579 343675.
Cartwheels Craft Centre is holding a Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday 14th December from 10am – 4pm. There will be local artists and crafters displaying and selling their products including Slick Silver Jewellery, Lynne’s Little Gems, The Little Cornish Soap Company, Luminosity Art, Loveny Willow, Art With Yvette, Taylormade Crafts, The Felted Sheep, Maid on the Moor and Alan Thomas Wood Turner.

Gift Vouchers will also be available at the Christmas Craft Fair so if you are struggling for a present idea, why not buy a gift voucher which can be used against any workshop or course. Gift vouchers are available in any denomination and would make the ideal gift.
There will be refreshments being served on the day.
Cartwheels Craft Centre provides ample off road parking, disabled access and facilities.
There are still a few spaces for stands at the Christmas Craft Fair so if you are a local artist or crafter and would be interested in a stand, please contact Julia on 01579 343675.
Unfortunately we do not have the facilities to accept credit/debit cards at the craft centre.
We are delighted to be starting our first course at Cartwheels Craft Centre. You will learn new techniques at each session and then have the opportunity to practice at home before bringing your work back to show each other the following week (if you want to!). If you would like further details then please contact us.
We have ample off road parking with disabled access into the building and disabled facilities.
We look forward to hearing from you.
